Why Is the Village Green Fertilization Program Based on 8 Visits? I get this question a lot, pretty much anytime I enroll a new customer into our fertilization program. Why 8 visits and more to the point, does a lawn really need 8 visits in a year?
Truthfully, no. Lawns don’t need to be treated 8 times per year. in fact, it was just a few years ago that we were offering a 6 visit program (we visited homes roughly every two and half months.) What I came to realize is that you don’t want just a fertilization company. What you want is a company who takes care of your lawn. If you had the time or expertise to watch your lawn, you wouldn’t have called us in the first place and would be doing the work yourself.
That is why we now visit 8 times a year. If we’re waiting to come out every two and half months a lot of bad things can happen between our visits.
A few examples would be:
• What starts as a few weeds can turn into a crop of weeds in that amount of time.
• Grubs (or chinch bugs) can devour your lawn.
• A broken sprinkler head (which can cause severe damage left.)
And the list goes on.
That is why Village Green believes that an 8 visit program is best. This program allows us to be in your yard every month to month and a half. And not just to spread fertilizer. That’s just part of the job. More importantly on each visit we inspect your lawn and either work to fix any issues we see or notify you of problems (so you can make a decision on how best to handle.)
That’s what Village Green does. And why we’ve been in business since 1980. We give you the lawn of your dreams without the worry or work so you can concentrate on more important things.
So what happens during those 8 visits?
Visit 1: In late winter we apply a liquid which controls existing weeds and prevents many winter weeds from ever starting to grow.
Visit 2: In early spring we apply a liquid fertilizer mixed with a pre and post emergent which gives a good jump start for the spring growth for Bermuda lawns. This also controls existing weeds plus prevents many spring and summer weeds. St. Augustine lawn customers receive a low-nitrogen granular fertilizer and spot treatment on weeds as needed.
Visits 3, 4, 5 and 6: Performed spring through summer we apply slow release granular fertilizer with spot treatments on weeds as needed.
Visit 7: In the fall we apply a a slow release granular fertilizer mixed with a fall weed preventative for our Bermuda lawn customers. St. Augustine lawn customers get a low-nitrogen granular fertilizer and spot treatment on weeds as needed.
Visit 8: In late fall or early winter we apply a liquid which controls existing weeds and prevents many winter weeds from ever starting to grow.
After we’re done the technician will email a report on what he’s seen.
Our 8 visit program keeps most of our customers 100% satisfied. Rest assured though, if you have other problems during the course of the year we are always available to help.
