It doesn’t feel like mosquito season right now. But if you’re planning to enjoy your patio or backyard this spring and summer, the time to get protection in place is before the mosquitoes arrive — not after.
When do mosquitoes actually come out in North Texas?
Mosquitoes become active once temperatures consistently stay above 50°F — and in North Texas, that can happen as early as late February or March. By April, activity is picking up steadily. By May, particularly around Memorial Day weekend, mosquito populations are well established and actively biting.
Peak season in the Dallas metro runs from roughly June through September, when heat and humidity are highest. But North Texas is also home to species like the Asian Tiger Mosquito, which is active during daylight hours — not just at dusk and dawn — making warm spring days uncomfortable too.
| Key fact: Texas has more mosquito species than any other state — 85 in total. The Dallas area consistently ranks among the most mosquito-active cities in the U.S. according to Orkin’s annual rankings. |
The bottom line: in North Texas, mosquito season isn’t a brief window. It’s five to seven months of your year, and it gets going faster than most people expect.
Why starting early makes a real difference
Mosquito control isn’t a one-time spray. It works through consistent, repeated treatment that keeps populations suppressed before they build. If you wait until you’re already getting bitten, you’re managing an established population. If you start in March or April, you’re staying ahead of it.
Think about the first outdoor gatherings of the season — a cookout, an evening on the patio, a weekend by the pool. Those start happening in April and May. Memorial Day weekend is typically the first big test. By then, a program that started in March has had two or three visits and is actively working. One that starts in June is still catching up.
How Village Green’s mosquito program works
We’ve been running our mosquito control program for three years now, and our satisfaction rate reflects it — the majority of customers re-enroll each season. Here’s what the program includes:
8 visits between March and October
Each visit covers fogging of mosquito-harboring vegetation, drainpipe flush treatment, and targeted water source treatments where mosquitoes breed. Our technicians are trained in vegetation mapping and breeding site identification — we’re not just spraying a perimeter.
Professional-grade products
We use a combination of larvicides and adulticides targeting mosquitoes at multiple life stages. These are professional formulations not available in store-bought products — and they’re safe for people and pets when applied correctly.
Optional upgrade: Mosquito + In2Care
For customers who want an additional layer of protection, we offer our Signature Plan with In2Care mosquito stations. These are placed in shaded areas where mosquitoes congregate. The female mosquito visits the station, picks up a biocide, and as she moves to other water sources, she spreads it — killing larvae there too. It’s an eco-friendly system with a larvicide approved for use in human drinking water by the World Health Organization. The In2Care upgrade involves an additional setup fee and monthly rate, but for properties with significant water features or heavy mosquito pressure, many customers find it worthwhile.
What we will — and won’t — promise
We’ve been doing lawn health in North Dallas for over 40 years. We learned a long time ago not to promise complete elimination of any pest. What we do promise is significant, noticeable reduction in biting mosquito populations on your property — enough that you can use your outdoor spaces comfortably.
If you’re not satisfied, we stand behind the program with a 30-Day Worry-Free Guarantee. And we don’t require a contract — you can stop at any time. We prefer to keep your business by delivering results, not by locking you in.
| No contract. No risk. Our 30-Day Worry-Free Guarantee means you can start with confidence. If the program isn’t delivering, you’re not stuck. |
A few things you can do on your own
Professional treatment is the most effective approach, but there are steps every homeowner should take alongside it. Mosquitoes breed in standing water — and it takes surprisingly little. A bottle cap’s worth is enough to support hundreds of larvae. Walk your yard weekly and empty or turn over anything holding water:
- Planters and pot saucers
- Buckets and kids’ toys
- Clogged gutters
- Bird baths (refresh every few days)
These steps won’t replace a treatment program, but they reduce breeding pressure and help your treatments work better.
Ready to get your yard protected before mosquito season hits?
Our program is now open for enrollment. Spots fill up in spring — the earlier you start, the better your coverage heading into Memorial Day weekend.
