As is often the case, Joel in West Plano found us by doing an online search for a reputable, locally-owned company to do some irrigation repair work at his home. Joel was pleased with our work on that project, so he called us when he was ready to make some improvements in his backyard.
Joel lives in West Plano and has what many would call a zero-lot line home. His landscape wish list was an easy-to-maintain design to fit his narrow backyard, creating privacy while adding more color.
Our plant selections were purple diamond loropetalum which will grow to 4′ or 5′ tall and, in addition to their purple foliage, also are one of the first spring bloomers. Kaleidoscope abelias will give soft, pink blooms in late spring and yellow foliage. We installed red obsession nandinas and, because the space is very shaded, we added an evergreen plant called fatsia that has large, fingerlike fronds and one of our favorites, an oak leaf hydrangea – the most drought-resistant hydrangea we have.
All these plants are easy to maintain and have an excellent track record of being Texas tough (they can handle the extreme heat and cold we’ve experienced the past few years in North Texas.)
