Maximize Mosquito Control: Why City Fogging Isn’t Enough for Your North Dallas Yard

Are mosquitoes still a problem in your yard despite city fogging treatments? Many North Dallas residents wonder if they’re wasting money on professional mosquito control when city trucks are already spraying. I’m Ken with Village Green, and I often hear this question: If my city fogs for mosquitoes at night, do I need additional yard treatments during the day? The answer is a resounding yes, and here’s why.

Understanding the difference between mosquito types is crucial. The main culprits ruining your backyard barbecues and morning coffees are daytime mosquitoes like the yellow fever mosquito and the Asian tiger mosquito. These pests are active during the day, love human food, and don’t stray far from your backyard. They hide in shrubs, saw grass, and under decks, in shaded areas no higher than 6 to 8 feet.

City fogging occurs at night, targeting nighttime mosquitoes like the southern house mosquito and western encephalitis mosquito. These mosquitoes fly high, are active at night, and prefer to feed on birds, not humans. The city’s fogging treatment works when mosquitoes fly through it, but daytime mosquitoes remain hidden in low spots, untouched by the fog.

To effectively combat mosquitos, you need targeted daytime treatments that reach into the low, shaded areas where problem mosquitoes live and breed. This includes treating shrubs, landscaping, and other areas where mosquitoes are resting.

The bottom line is that city fogging and professional daytime treatments complement each other but address different mosquito problems. For comprehensive mosquito control, consider both approaches.
